Analysis of Selected Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Honey Obtained from Plateau State, Nigeria

چکیده
Honey bees derive their nutrients from nectars and other plant materials. These naturally available materials are affected by the residual presence of pesticides. The concentration pesticides in honey comb then reflects leftover after degradation. In this study, samples were collected five different farms Plateau State analyzed for pesticide residues (atrazine, cypermethrin) heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Fe Mn) using GC-MS AAS techniques. Results analysis indicated that atrazine cypermethrin found range (0.01 - 0.36 0.11 0.26) mg/kg, respectively all samples. Mn across while Cd was detected only sample obtained Maraban Jos (0.0013 mg/kg). Except Bokkos Jos, Pb This study revealed contained selected above maximum residue limits recommended European Union, except below Food Agriculture Organization. high indicates contaminated environment which fed; therefore intermittent monitoring quality honeys produced would be necessary as calls urgent attention.

The study evaluates associated health risks of heavy metals in the soil to inhabitants of two mining areas of Nigeria. For so doing, it collects and analyses nine homogenous soil samples for their lead, copper, cadmium, zinc, and chromium levels, using AAS. The samples are then used to calculate health risks to adults and children. For adult population in Agbaja community, the calculated hazard...

متن کاملAssessment of Heavy Metals Mobility in Selected Contaminated Cocoa Soils in Ondo State, Nigeria
Phytophtora pod rot is currently the most important limiting factor in the Nigeria cocoa Industry with a total losses of 30-90% crop loss. To overcome this problem, Nigerian cocoa farmers solely use copper-based fungicides to control the disease. Copper being a metal is not biodegradable. Hence, it accumulates in the soil as a result of continual use. Heavy metals are potentially toxic to soil ...
متن کاملSpeciation of some selected heavy metals in coal bottom ash from Okaba Coal, Ankpa, Nigeria
Speciation of coal cotton ash from Okaba in Kogi State Nigeria was carried out using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Results of this research showed that the elements studied (Cr, Fe, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd and Zn) were all observed in at least three fractions of the sequential extraction procedure. Pb showed more presence in the exchangeable fraction (80±0.03 μg/g) which is a serious problem to ...
